Working Together

I have recently completed a new screen print for Mill Co. in London. It was the Mill Co. Third Annual Exhibition in partnership with The Co-operative and as such the brief was 'co-operation'. Above is my take on this brief, and I am rather happy with the result considering my studio set up at the moment. I have shown you a little glimpse of my work space in the second picture, but what this doesn't show is the few inches of floor space I have to work in! Time for a sort out I think. The print should be for sale very soon over at the Mill Co. store.

Myth, Tradition and Folklore

I am very happy to be part of a lovely group show that is opening this Saturday at the Emma Mason Gallery in Eastbourne. It is a celebration of all things mythical, traditional and folklorish. I will be amongst some great artists including the wonderful Jonathan Gibbs and the super talented Alice Pattullo. For more information have a look at the Emma Mason Gallery website.

Prema Card Rack

Another typically boring commission from the lovely people over at Prema. Can you make us a rocket shaped card rack? Oh, go on then, if I must. I cannot tell you how happy I am when people get in contact with a really fun project that you can get your teeth into. Happy days! It sits rather comfortably next to the a board I built for them a little while ago.

Ticktockrobot

Over the last few weeks I have been lucky enough to become part of the lovely Ticktockrobot team, an animation company based down in sunny Brighton. Not only that but a really pleasant job came along even before the ink had dried on the contracts. We were asked to create a series of six stings that highlight the various areas and events that are happening during this years Goodwood Revival Festival. Above is the fruits of our labours.

Not only a fun and satisfying job to work on, but hopefully the start of a beautiful relationship!

WAW to NY AAF

These last few months have been hectic to say the least. Barely enough time to breathe with all the projects that have been flying around the studio, but finally the fruits of my labours are starting to emerge. Drove across to London yesterday to deliver a fresh new batch of big old match boxes to the lovely people at Wills Art Warehouse. They are being kind enough to take all my work to the Affordable Art Fair in New York and I am really excited to see how my work goes down across the pond.

The 'Keep The Home Fires Burning' design may well yet turn into a paper based screen print, but maybe a few days off first!

The Circus comes to Frome

The circus is indeed on its way to the lovely town of Frome. I was kindly asked a while ago to produce some work based on the theme 'circus' as part of the open studios at this years Frome Festival. Above is what popped out of my head including a fireworks box and a circus ticket.

You can see these in all there colourful glory in a delightful house located at 21 Lower Keyford, Frome, BA11 4AP from Sat 7th - Sun 15th July 2012 alongside a plethora of other artists.

ELCAF 2012

After an epic few days of printing, no sleep, a 5am coach and then standing up for 10 hours trying to sell my wares, ELCAF 2012 is done and dusted. Just as the doors were about to open, Al from Nobrow was worried that nobody would turn up to this inaugural event. Then over 3000 people decided to turn up, and the room was completely packed from 10am until 8pm. It was lovely to be part of such a great day and meet so many nice people. Heres to many more to come.

ELCAF

I feel very lucky to be taking part in the first East London Comic and Arts Festival (ELCAF) hosted by the wonderful folk at Nobrow. Taking place on June 17th at an amazing looking venue, The Village Underground, Shoreditch. This being a curated event there will be some amazing names taking part from a wide selection of disciplines, and me! McBess (creator of the poster you see above) will be the artist in residence, there will be a talk by the incredible Blexbolex, a whole host of comics, books, artworks, goodies and products to fill your pockets with, and live music in the evening. Tis going to be pretty special. If you are around, come say hello! More information can be found here.

Print at Rostra

This Saturday welcomes the opening of 'Print' at the Rostra gallery in the beautiful city of Bath. Along side my screen printed efforts will be the genius of Bjorn Lie, the loveliness of Freya Cumming, the wit of Simon Tozer, the playfulness of Jane Ormes, the originality of Graham Carter and some guy called Sir Peter Blake. Not a bad role call!

Bucks fizz and treats from 11am - 1pm Saturday 5th May at Rosta.

Good night Snap.

Well, there it is. The curtain has fallen on what has been my creative home for the past three years. The shop has shut and the studios are slowly being cleared out. It is with a heavy heart that I leave my HQ in the centre of Bristol, but bigger and better things await. It is strange to think that when I first joined the studios, I had only ever done one screen print in my life, and now I seem to be just about making a living from it. For that, I will forever be gratefully. Thank you Snap and all who have sailed in you, we shall miss you.

The Hare

The dirty old pub sign has been scrubbed, buffed, polished, painted and varnished into a new, gleaming swing sign for The Hare public house in Bedminster, Bristol. It was lovely to be asked to create an eye catching sign for this new venture and I hope it has many happy years swinging in the breeze, attracting punters in for a pint or two.

Drinking at work!

There seems to be a large, dirty, metal pub sign in my dining room. All will be revealed very soon.

Afforable Art Fair

Had a manic couple of days last week getting everything ready to send up to London in time for the Affordable Art Fair. It was one of those weeks where you need the screen printing to go smoothly as you have a deadline to meet, which basically means that everything goes wrong. This proved to be the case, with the exposure unit playing silly buggers, but I managed to print, frame, label and pack just in time, wrapping the final package as the delivery driver took it out of my hands! The fair runs from 15th - 18th in Battersea, with my work being exhibited with the lovely people at Wills Art Warehouse. All information is here.

If you do get along to look at some lovely art, you will have a chance to see new, larger versions of my stamps. Puffin, fox, squirrel and owl so far, with the otter to join the gang next week. For those not going, the are now available here.

Marjorie, Aurelia and Viking.

A nice delivery in the post containing three old tin Hornby Pullman carriages. An absolute bargain from ebay, and I think very good inspiration for a new print.

Also, the arrival of the carriages reminded me I had a few (about six) of these 'Rolling Stock' prints hiding out in my studio. They are now in my shop and going at the bargain price of ten English pounds! Get yourself one here, but be quick.

Puffin Cottage

I was recently commissioned to turn one of my small puffin stamps into a large puffin stamp to adorn the walls of a little cottage in Devon called, of all things, Puffin Cottage. It was strange turning something that has only ever existed as a tiny screen print into a much bigger image, and I was worried that the stamp would lose a little something. I was wrong, and I love the result, so keep your eyes peeled for a few of these designs appearing in a larger format in the near future. Hopefully in time for the Affordable Art Fair (more on that soon).

If you wish to stay in a lovely cottage with the above print keeping you company, you can! Here.

Even on calm waters...

A nautical proverb, a tall ship, a sea monster. What more could you ask for in a screen print? This large, new print was supposed to have been completed just before Christmas, but my old Mac decided to corrupt the file, so I literally had to start from scratch and rebuild from the ground up. I hope you think it was worth it? It is now on its way to London for the opening of the Illustra8 show at Wills Art Warehouse. If you ever find yourself mooching around Putney between 25th Feb to 30th March, why not pop in and have a snoop.

Also available in my shop, here.

The Boy Frost..... Literally!

I have been a bit quiet on the blogging front recently due to the arrival of little man you see above. This little dollop, or Harry as we call him, has been in mine and Teresa's life now for 11 weeks and a little bundle of joy he is to! There are lots of exciting projects lined up for me this year, new clients, new prints and plenty of work to be done, so hopefully the Old Boy Frost can fit everything in now the New Boy Frost is in the world!

Maitreya Social

Only a few weeks left! I have had a selection of my work hanging in the lovely Maitreya Social in Bristol for the past few months, so if you were lucky enough to sample some of the fine, fine food, you would also have had a treat for the eyes as well. All good things must come to an end though and the work comes down at the end of this month. Fear not though, the exceptional cooking continues! Check out their website.
